Dairy - Go - Round

Dairy - Go - Round?

Students visited Fair Oaks Dairy in Indiana on their way to the National Young Farmers Convention in February 2006. Cows step onto a rotating floor that takes 8 minutes to complete the milking process before they return to the herd. They also toured the Adventure Center at the diary that was more like "Dairy meets Disney." Students got an appreciation for the need to educate the public on the source of farm products. They need to know that the grocery stores don't "make" milk.

Course Descriptions and Graduation Requirements

The Agricultural Technology Program offers a comprehensive curriculum that is outlined in the online Curriculum Guide. This guide includes graduation requirements by option and semester as well as course descriptions.

The university also offers a Degree Audit Report System (DARS) via HokieSpa that allows students to apply for a degree after they are admitted to the program, and helps them track their progress toward the degree. Students should see their advisors for assistance with this process.

Advising

Agricultural Technology students are assigned advisors in their course of study.

The student shares the responsibility for developing an advising partnership with his or her advisor. Students are expected to:

  • Communicate goals, needs, wants, and concerns to the advisor in a respectful and sincere manner;
  • Keep abreast of their own academic progress and requirements related to their academic program;
  • Make, keep, and be prepared for appointments with the advisor;
  • Inform the advisor of changes in plans and/or circumstances that might impact academic performance; and
  • Bring concerns regarding the quality of advising to the attention of the advisor or the director
