The Certificate of Teaching Excellence (CTE) is awarded annually by each of the colleges at Virginia Tech. Only CTE recipients are eligible to be considered for the Virginia Tech Alumni Teaching Award, and then only three years following the date of the CTE award. Especially deserving faculty may receive more than one CTE Award so to remain “in the running” for the Alumni Teaching Award.
The CTE selection process for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is administered by the CALS Academy of Teaching Excellence, a group comprised of past CTE recipients. The process is nominated driven. Students, faculty, or other individuals may submit standard, university nomination forms or they may write nomination letters on behalf of nominees. The Academy has found that additional supporting materials facilitate the selection process.
Any instructor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is eligible for the award.
The dossier should not exceed five pages, excluding nomination letters. All nomination letters should be grouped at the end of the dossier.
