Overview

The graduate awards process has helped spotlight the significance of graduate education at Virginia Tech by focusing on graduate students who distinguish themselves in many ways.

Eligibility (Who can apply / be nominated)

Teaching must be at Virginia Tech for a university-level course
Teaching must have been done while the nominee was a full-time or part-time GTA for at least a full semester or for one summer session.
Nominee must be a currently enrolled student at the time the award is given.

Selection Criteria (How recipients will be chosen)

Good teaching as evidenced by:
Thorough knowledege of the subject matter
Effective communication skills
Enthusiasm for the subject
Ability to motivate students to learn
Effective organizational skills

Packet Requirements (What to submit)

At least two recommendations addressing criteria of good teaching:
One from a supervising faculty member; one from faculty member, staff member, or graduate student who has observed the nominee’s teaching skills
Student evaluations
Evidence that the applicant has had sufficient teaching duties to demonstrate criteria of good teaching
Statement of personal teaching philosophy
Evidence that applicant has had sufficient teaching to demostrate good teaching
Packet not to exceed 30 pages
