Faculty Evaluation Principles

Beginning in Fall 2003, a committee representing faculty from the teaching, research and extension divisions of the College was asked to develop College principles for recognizing and rewarding faculty excellence. The committee was composed of the following people:

  1. Shelly Nickols-Richardson, HNFE, research representative appointed by CALSFA
  2. Cindy Wood, APSC, teaching representative appointed by CALSFA
  3. Mike Lambur, AEE, extension representative appointed by CALSFA
  4. Susan Sumner, FST, Department Head
  5. Cathy Sutphin, CALS Administration, representing Extension field
  6. Martin Daniel, CALS Director of Operations
  7. Tim Mack, Chair, AHNR-IT

This committee met throughout 2004 to develop and discuss principles for unit leaders to use in evaluating faculty, and to develop basic guidelines for faculty to use in enhancing the annual reports and thus facilitate a fair and substantive review. The principles and guidelines developed by this committee have been reviewed by the Executive Council and by the College unit leaders. These principles are to be integrated with the current promotion and tenure process and will assist in building greater consistency in the evaluation process.
