Outreach Involvement

As part the college’s land-grant mission, faculty, staff, and students are involved in numerous outreach and extension programs.

  • Provided training to scientists, government and industry personnel working in food sanitation and food safety (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) in Southeast Asia (Professor Michael Jahncke, Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center)
  • Technical and technician exchange to promote the development of intensive marine larviculture with the INVE Group comprised of 16 companies from China, Europe, North Africa, Southeast Asia and the United States (Extension Specialist Michael Schwarz, Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center)
  • Capacity building and program and curriculum review for a new Food Science program at Kuwait University (Professor Joe Marcy, Food Science and Technology)
  • Received training in a new neurophysiological technique at the University of British Columbia - Vancouver, Canada (Associate Professor Kevin Davy, Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise)
  • Technical assistance on how best to deploy microbial source tracking technology to determine sources of fecal pollution in Canadian waters (Professor Charles Hagedorn, Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences)
  • Technical assistance on nutrient management planning, fertilizer use, and establishment of sustainable and no-till cropping systems to scientific, governmental, and grower associations in Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand (Mark Alley, W.G. Wysor Professor of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences)
  • Technical assistance related to the environmental aspects of coal utilization, including air emissions, carbon sequestration, and climate change provided to the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Coal Industry Advisory Board. The IEA is the energy forum for 26 member governments of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, based in Paris, France (Associate Professor Carl Zipper, Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences)

International Programs
