Out of State Residents Awarded Scholarships at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va., April 4, 2002 -- Elizabeth Crowley, a first-year student at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The daughter of John and Margaret Crowley of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., she has been named a recipient of the $1,000 K.C. and Polly Williamson Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

She is active in the Equestrian Club. She has been named to the dean's list and she has been awarded the James R. Nichols Scholarship in recognition for her academic achievement.

Lindsey George, a first-year student at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The daughter of Roger and Pam George of Hilliard, Ohio, she has been named a recipient of the $1,000 Ashe-Lockhart Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

She is active in the Equestrian Club, the Baptist Student Union, and is a member of the Equestrian Team. She has also received the James R. Nichols Scholarship and the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship in recognition for her academic achievements.

J. Oliver Irons, a first-year student at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue his studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The son of Bill and Sara Irons of Lewisburg, W.Va., he has been named a recipient of the $3,000 Leon and Cynthia Heron Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

He is active in raising and showing cattle.

Amanda Miller, a first-year student at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The daughter of Chuck and Ellen Miller of Apex, N.C., she has been named a recipient of the $750 Thomas J. and Christine W. Marlowe Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

She is active in the Block and Bridle Club, the Poultry Science club, the Food Science Club, the Baptist Student Union, and the National FFA Organization. Other awards Miller has received include the 2002 National Cattlemen's Foundation and Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. Beef Industry Scholarship, the North Carolina FFA State Star Agribusiness Award, and the North Carolina FFA State Beef Production Entrepreneurship Award.
