Valley-Area Residents Awarded Scholarships at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va., April 11, 2002 -- Joey Amory, a sophomore at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue his studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The son of Otis and Page Amory of Crozet, he has been named a recipient of the Fred Campbell Horse Industry Student Leader Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

He is active in the Horse Judging Team, the Equestrian Club, and the Equestrian Team. Amory has also been named a member of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, the National Champion Judging Team at Morgen Nationals, and has been recognized as the 2nd high individual in the MTSU judging contest and as a 4-H All Star.

Amy Halterman, a senior at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The daughter of Glenn and Cathy Halterman of Monterey, she has been named a recipient of the $1,000 William T. Bailey Sr. Livestock Judging Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

She is active in the Sigma Alpha Agricultural Sorority, the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, the Collegiate Livestock Judging Team, and the Highland County Rescue Squad. Halterman has also received the Harry F. Byrd Leadership Award in recognition of her achievements. She serves as a nationally registered emergency medical technician, and as a student ambassador for the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences.

Chad May, a sophomore at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue his studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The son of Charles F. and Sharon B. May of Harrisonburg, he has been named a recipient of the $1,000 Richard S. Ellis IV and Roy A. Meek Jr. Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

He is an active member of Mt. Carmel UB Church. May has been named to the dean's list in recognition for his academic achievements.

Bart Kite, a junior at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue his studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The son of Bertram and Leisa Kite of Shenandoah, he has been named a recipient of the $3,000 Leon and Cynthia Heron Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

He is active in the Poultry Science Club and the Block and Bridle Club. Kite has also been named to the dean's list and inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars in recognition for his academic achievement.
