Lexington-Area Residents Awarded Scholarships at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va., April 11, 2002 -- Kate Louise Repair, a junior at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The daughter of Jonathan P. and Judy C. Repair of Glasgow, she has been named a recipient of the $1,000 Lou Dixey Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

She is active in the Block and Bridle Club, Sigma Alpha Sorority, the Virginia Tech Women's Lacrosse Club, the Virginia Junior Angus Association, and she serves as a student ambassador for the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences.

Charles Zachary Hileman, a first-year student at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue his studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The son of Charles and Darlene Hileman of Lexington, he has been named a recipient of the $1,000 A.L. "Ike" Eller Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

He is active in the American Simmental Association and raises Simmental-influenced beef cattle. Hileman shows cattle at Rockbridge Regional Fair and the Virginia Beef Expo. He has been recognized in livestock judging, named to the state FFA champion team, the National FFA 14th place team, and received the national FFA 8th high individual award.

Jennifer Showalter, a first-year student at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies in animal and poultry sciences.

The daughter of Charles and Susan Showalter of Lexington, she has been named a recipient of the $3,000 Leon and Cynthia Heron Scholarship for the coming fall semester.

Showalter has also been recognized for her achievements by Who's Who Among American High School Students, and named a 4-H All Star, the Virginia FFA 2001 State Star Farmer, awarded the DARE 4-H award, and named 4th in the 2000 national 4-H livestock judging contest.
