NAMES IN THE NEWS
L.T. Kok, professor and head of the Department of Entomology, was elected Fellow of the Entomological Society of America. Kok was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field, which include his internationally acknowledged leadership in the biocontrol of musk and plumeless thistle, noxious pasture weeds in the United States.
The Virginia Tech Alumni Association honored several faculty and staff members last fall for their outstanding contributions to Virginia Tech. The 2005 Virginia Tech Alumni Association Awards to those in the college were:
Excellence in Extension: Ruby Cox, professor and Extension specialist in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise, who conducts research-based Extension nutrition programs.
Outreach Excellence: L. Leon Geyer, professor of environmental and agricultural law and economics in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, who provides yearly updates on taxes for CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax practitioners with the state's largest tax practitioner workshops.
Outreach Excellence for Team Achievement: Kristi Decourcy, laboratory manager at the Fralin Biotechnology Center, and Erin Dolan, assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and director of the center's outreach efforts, who conduct for outreach activities for the Fralin Biotechnology Center.
