Accolades

On campus: shirley baber

Shirley Baber, administrative assistant in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, was honored with the college’s Employee of the Month Award for April. Her nominator praised her contributions that have made Virginia Tech a better place to work for everyone in the department: “Shirley is known as ‘The Fixer’ in our department. Whenever anyone has a problem […], Shirley is the person everyone turns to with confidence. A key element is that Shirley always takes the time to find the correct answer and process for addressing each issue. She does it in a timely and cheerful manner.”

Robert Wright, professor of horticulture, has received a patent on “WoodGro,” a container planting material made from ground pine trees.
