Shepherd joined the CALS team in April 2019 as the College’s Leadership Gift officer. In her role, Shepherd strives to engage alumni and friends of the college, strengthening their connection to the university and exploring their desire to positively impact our students and programs through philanthropy, volunteer work and collaboration. While Shepherd is not a Hokie, she comes from a long line of Virginia Tech graduates and is excited to be a part of the Hokie Nation!
Shepherd attended the University of Georgia, where she received her Bachelors and Masters in Animal and Dairy Science. As an undergraduate, she interned in a local extension office, where she was exposed to the Cooperative Extension Service for the first time. Through this experience, she developed a great love and respect for extension, including the 4-H program.
Prior to her position at CALS, Shepherd served first as the Director of Member Services and Events and then the Deputy Executive Director of the Virginia Agribusiness Council (VAC). The VAC is a non-profit member organization committed to representing the agriculture and forest industries in the Commonwealth with a unified voice through effective government relations efforts. During her time there, she developed many cherished relationships, including those with Tech alumni, faculty and staff, which led to her current role.
In her spare time, Shepherd can be found walking her dog, spending time in the Northern Neck (her favorite part of Virginia), and attempting home and garden projects.
