B.S. in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise
Students majoring in human nutrition, foods, and exercise are trained for a wide variety of health professions. HNFE provides a unique fusion of courses that encompass human performance, weight management, disease and prevention, and the psychosocial aspects of health and human behavior. Our curriculum trains students to address complex issues and questions, and to discover, translate, and disseminate health-related advances. Our undergraduate options include dietetics and the science of food, nutrition, and exercise. These options provide a strong science background in chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology, and nutrition. The dietetics curriculum is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, enabling graduates to apply for ACEND-accredited dietetic internships. Students in the SFNE option are prepared for certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine, as well as graduate and professional study in health professions such as medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, dentistry, and nursing. Our unique course offerings develop students who have a strong foundation of knowledge, excellent oral and written communications skills, and the ability to critique and analyze research within the field. Our students are well-prepared to pursue careers in health care professions, research, and related fields.
Options
Students pursuing their B.S. in human nutrition, foods, and exercise may choose from the following focus areas:
Dietetics—Prepares students to become registered dietitians and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics.
Science of food, nutrition, and exercise—Prepares students for a range of graduate and health professional programs, meeting admission requirements for programs in physical therapy, medicine, pharmacy, physician ssistant, nursing, and dentistry, among other health fields.
