Undergraduate Research in CALS

Research

Why should you participate in undergraduate research? For so many reasons! You’ll get a front seat to cutting edge discovery and the process of problem solving in real world scenarios. You’ll obtain hands-on experience outside of the classroom, learn of new scientific knowledge and advancements, gain transferrable skills for your field and future career, get to attend conferences to share your work, and form valuable relationships with faculty, mentors, and other students.

If you have an interest in finding an undergraduate research opportunity, talk to your advisor or your faculty members. Also check out the departmental research happening in CALS and Virginia Tech using the buttons below.

"I have been working in the Bevan and Brown Lab where we work on computational biochemistry. I have really enjoyed expanding on the information I have learned in my classes to real-world problems that I am passionate about finding solutions to. By being involved in my lab I have made new friends, networking connections, and am always being pushed to succeed in the lab and beyond. There are also many opportunities to share our research with others through conferences and presentations and I have loved knowing that we are able to connect with others and their research".  - Sophie D.  Biochemistry '22
